Sukkot Outline


Sukkot out line

A.   First two days are stipulated in the Torah as no work.

B.    Preparation and serving of meals only aloud.

C.   The third through sixth days, work goes on as always.

D.   The final day of the festival, called Shemini Atzeret, is prescribed by the Torah as another day free from work.

E.    We can us leaf and fruits to cover the booth.

F.    The Sukkah roof needs to be open to the sky .

G.   The Sukkah can be any shape you want, round, square, ect.

H.   The roof cove is called sekhakh, this material should grow from the earth, be cut down and no longer be connected to the ground.

I.       Things you can use are branches cut from trees, bushes, cornstalks, bamboo reeds, very narrow wood beams.

 

                        Sukkot foods

       Zucchini Bread

3 eggs (3 egg whites, 1 yoke)

1 cup oil

2 cups sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups grated zucchini

1 teaspoon baking soda

1.5 teaspoons baking powder

3 teaspoons cinnamon

.5 cups nuts

3 cups flour

In a mixing bowl, beat together the eggs, oil, sugar, and vanilla for 1 minute. Add the zucchini and mix it with the other ingredients. Combine the baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nuts, and flour. Mix well and then blend into the zucchini mixture, Pour into two greased 9x3x3 loaf pans. Bake at 325F until firm and golden brown, about 1 hour. Let cool before removing from pans, makes two loaves.

This is only one type of bread you can make at home. Other foods will be on hand out papers.

 

      Pray these : Shehecheyanu= The Blessing for the New Season.

 

Baruch ata Yahveh Elohiym melekh ha-olam shehecheynu v’ki-y’manu v’higianu la-zman hazeh.

 

Praised are You Yahveh our God, King of the universe, Who has kept us in life, and has preserved us, and enabled us to reach this season.

 

                        The Blessing in the Sukkah

 

Baruch ata Yahveh Elohiym melekh ha-olam, asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav vetzivanu leysheyv ba-sukkah

 

Praised are You , Yahveh our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us by Your Laws (Torah) and has Commanded us to dwell in the Sukkah.

 

Following the Sukkah blessing, we bless two other symbols of the festival: The lulav and the etrog. The lulav, a palm branch, and etrog, a large lemon-like citron, along with myrtle and willow, comprise the four festival symbols called the Four Species,

Baruch ata Yahveh Elohiym melekh ha-olam, asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav vetzivanu al n’tilat lulav

 

Praise are You Yahveh our God, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us by Your Laws and Commanded us to take up the Lulav

 

Note: If Sukkot begins on Friday evening, we postpone blessing the lulav and etrog until after Shabbat.

 

                        HaMotzi  The Blessing over Bread

 

Baruch ata Yahveh Elohiym melekh ha-olam, ha-motzi lechem min ha-aretz.

 

Praised are You Yahveh our God, King of the universe, Who brings forth bread from the earth.
