Rise of Pride - Fall of Spirit

Dani’el answered the king, “keep your gifts, and give your rewards to some one else. How ever I will read the inscription to the king and tell him what it means.

Your majesty, the Most High God gave N’vukhadnetzar your father the kingdom, as well as greatness, glory and majesty. Because of the greatness he gave him, all the peoples, nations and languages trembled with fear before him. Any one he wanted to, he put to death; any one he wanted to, he kept alive; any one he wanted to, he advanced; and any one he wanted to, he humbled. But when he grew proud and his spirit became hard, he began treating people arrogantly; so he was deposed from his royal thrown; and his glory was taken away from him. He was driven from human society; his heart was made like that of an animal. He lived with the wild donkeys, he was fed with grass like an ox, and his body was drenched with dew from the sky; until he learned that the Most High God rules in the human kingdom and sets up over it whomever he pleases. But, Belshatzar, you, his son, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this. Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven by having them bring you the vessels from his house; and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them; then you offered praise to your gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood and stone, which can’t see, hear or know anything. Meanwhile, Yahveh, who holds your very breath in his hands, and to whom belongs everything you do, you have not glorified. This is why he sent the hand to write this inscription; and the inscription says, ‘M’ne!

M’ne! T’kel ufarsin.’ This is what it means: ‘M’ne!’- Yahveh has counted up your kingdom and brought it to end. ‘T’kel’ – you are weighed on the balance-scale and come up short. ‘P’res – your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and Persians,”

Then Belshatzar gave the order; and they clothed Dani’el in royal purple, put a gold chain around his neck and proclaimed him that he was to be one of the three men ruling the kingdom.

That very night Belshatzar, the king of Kasdim, was killed. Daniel 5:17-30

But when he grew proud and his spirit became hard:

Look at me, I am better than thee. I have knowledge I have wealth and those who see me out know me without a doubt. They put my name in print and my picture taken again and again. I made myself indeed there is no need to drop to my knees. His Words I once read now lie within me dead.

Pride, n,

1.     Inordinate self-esteem; an unreasonable conceit of one’s own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifest itself in contempt of others.

2.     Insolence; rude treatment of others; insolent exultation.

3.     Generous elation of heart; a noble self esteem springing from a consciousness of worth.

It cares not for others, only for itself. If you are in its path the feelings of others has past and only pain can remain.

Pride is a result of sin. And Pride is sin within itself as it takes the form of me, myself, and I.

Your pride has been brought down to Sh’ol with the music of your lyres, under you a mattress of maggots, over you a blanket of worms.’

How did you come to fall from the heavens, morning star, son of dawn? How did you come to be cut to the ground, conqueror of nations? You thought to yourself, ‘I will scale the heavens; I will raise my throne above Yahveh’s stars. I will sit on the Mount of Assembly far away in the north. I will rise past the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ Yesha’Yahu (Isaiah) 14:11-14

Stay sober, stay alert! Your enemy, the adversary, stalks about like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Kefa (Peter) 5:8

Just as the lion stays within its Pride feeding from others in the pride stalking the pray only to feel his own hunger and at times letting out a loud roar as to say here I am notice me see me! Fighting off other lions in order to keep his pride for himself.

For the wicked boast about his lust; he blesses greed and despises Yahveh. Every scheme of the wicked in his arrogance [says]’ “There is no God’ [so] it won’t be held against me.” Tehillim (Psalms) 10:3(2)-4(3)

So for them, pride is a necklace; and violence clothes them like a robe. Their eyes peep out through folds of fat; evil thoughts overflow from their hearts, They scoff and speak with malice, they loftily utter threats. They set their mouths against heaven; their tongues swagger through the earth. Tehillim (Psalms) 73:6-9

He was deposed from his royal thrown; and his glory was taken away from him:

First comes pride, then disgrace; but with the humble is wisdom. Mishlei (proverbs) 11:2

I will break the pride you have in your own power, I will make your sky like iron, your soil like bronze—you will spend your strength in vain, because the land will not yield its produce or the trees in the field their fruit. Yes, if you go against me and don’t listen to me, I will increase your calamities sevenfold, according to your sins. I will send wild animals among you; they will rob you of your children, destroy your livestock and reduce your numbers, until your roads are deserted. If, in spite of all this, you refuse my correction and still go against me, then I too will go against you; and I, yes I, will strike you seven times over for your sins. I will bring a sword against you which will execute the vengeance of the covenant. You will be huddled inside your cities. I will send sickness among you and you will be handed over to the power of the enemy. I will cut off you supply of bread, so that ten women will bake your bread in one oven and dole out your bread by weight, and you will eat but not be satisfied. And if, for all this, you still will not listen to me, but go against me; then I will go against you furiously, and I also will chastise you yet seven times more for your sins. You will eat the flesh of your own sons, you will eat the flesh of your own daughters. I will destroy your high places, cut down your pillars for sun-worship, and throw your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols; and I will detest you. I will lay waste to your cities and make your sanctuaries desolate; so as not to smell your fragrant aromas. Vayikra (Leviticus) 26:19-31

Until he learned that the Most High God rules in the human kingdom and sets up over it whomever he pleases:

“When this period was over, I, N’vukhadnetzar, lifted my eyes toward heaven, and my understanding came back to me, I blessed the Most High, I praised and gave honor to him who lives forever.”For his rulership is everlasting, his kingdom endues through all generations. All who live on earth are counted as nothing. He does what he wishes with the army of heaven and with those living on earth. No one can hold back his hand or ask him. “What are you doing?” It was at that moment that my understanding came back to me; and for the sake of the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and splendor also came back to me. My advisers and lords sought me out. I was re-established in my kingdom, and to my previous greatness even more was added. So now I, N’vukhadnetzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven: “For all his works are truth, and his ways are just: and he can humble those who walk in pride.” Daniel 4:31(34)-34(37)

The proud will be humbled, but the humble will be honored. Mishlei (proverbs) 29:23

You, his son, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this:

Pride goes before destruction, and arrogance before failure. Better to humble among the poor than share the spoil with the proud. Mishlei (proverbs) 16:18-19

But the grace he gives is greater, which is why it says, “God opposes the arrogant, but to the humble he gives grace.” Therefore, submit to God. Moreover, take a stand against the Adversary, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and he will come closer to you. Clean your hands, sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded people! Wail, mourn, sob! Let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy into gloom! Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. Ya’akov (James) 4:6-10

Then, if my people, who bear my name, will humble themselves, pray, seek my face and turn from their evil ways, I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. Divrei-hayamim Alef (2 Chronicles) 7:14

Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven by having them bring you the vessels from his house.

The vessels from his house (Yahveh’s Temple)

If a person keeps himself free of defilement by the latter, he will be a vessel set aside for honorable use by the master of the house and ready for every kind of good work. 2 Timothy 2:21

Pride causes the body (vessel of the Rauch Kodesh) to be used for other things than the glory of Yahveh.

You and your lords, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them; then you offered praise to your gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood and stone, which can’t see, hear or know anything.

Don’t you know that your bodies are parts of the Messiah? So, am I to take parts of the Messiah and make them parts of a prostitute? Heaven forbid! 1 Corinthians 6:15

Therefore, do not let sin rule in your mortal bodies, so that it makes you obey its desires; and do not offer any part of yourselves to sin as an instrument for wicked ness. On the contrary, offer yourselves to Yahveh as people alive from the dead, and your various parts to Yahveh as instruments for righteousness. Romans 6:12-13

Yahveh has counted up your kingdom and brought it to end. ‘T’kel’ – you are weighed on the balance-scale and come up short.

Pride brings judgment.

From the One we know is the One who said, “Vengeance is my responsibility; I will repay,”

And then said,

“Yahveh will judge his people.”

It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God! Messianic Jews (Hebrews) 10:30-31

That very night Belshatzar, the king of Kasdim, was killed.

Pride brings death Physical and Spiritual.

There are six things Yahveh hates, seven which he detest: A haughty (proud) look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that plots wicked schemes, feet swift in running to do evil, a false witness who lies with every breath, and him who shows strife among brothers. Mishlei (Proverbs) 6:16-19

Woe to the haughty (proud) crown of Efrayim’s drunks, to the fading flower of its proud splendor, located at the head of the rich valley belonging to people at the head overcome by wine!

Yahveh has someone strong and powerful. He comes like a hailstorm, a destructive tempest, like a flood of water, rushing, overwhelming; with his hands he hurls them to the ground. The haughty crown of Efrayim’s drunks is trampled under foot. Yesha’Yahu (Isaiah) 27:1-3

As I live’ says Yahveh Elohiym, ‘your sister S’dom has not done, neither she nor her daughters, {as much evil} as you have done, you and your daughters.  The crimes of your sister S’dom were pride and gluttony; she and her daughters were careless and complacent, so that they did nothing to help the poor and needy.  They were arrogant and committed disgusting acts before me; so that when I saw it, I swept them away. Yechezk’el (Ezekiel) 16: 48-50

What is revealed is God’s angel from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people who in their wickedness keep suppressing the truth; because what is known about God is plain to them, since God has made it plain to them. For ever since the creation of the universe his invisible qualities –both his eternal power and his divine nature—have been clearly seen, because they can be understood from what he has made. Therefore, they have no excuse; because, although they know who God is, they do not glorify him as God or thank him. On the contrary, they have become futile in their thinking; and their undiscerning hearts have become darkened. Claiming to be wise, they have become fools! In fact, they have exchanged the glory of the immortal God for mere images, like a mortal human being, or like birds, animals or reptiles! This is why God has given them up to the vileness of their hearts’ lusts, to the shameful misuse of each other’s bodies. They have exchanged the truth of God for falsehood, by worshipping and serving created things, rather than the Creator—praised be he for ever. Amen. This is why God has given them up to degrading passions; so that their women exchange natural sexual relations for unnatural: and likewise the men, giving up natural relations with the opposite sex, burn with passion for one another, men committing shameful acts with other men and receiving in their own persons the penalty appropriate to their perversion. In other words, since they have not considered God worth knowing, God has given them up to worthless ways of thinking: so that they do improper things. They are filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and vice; stuffed with jealousy, murder, quarreling, dishonesty and ill-will: they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God: they are insolent, arrogant and boastful: they plan evil schemes; they disobey their parents; they are brainless, faithless, heartless and ruthless. They know well enough God’s righteous decree that people who do such things deserve to die; yet not only do they keep doing them, but they applaud others who do the same. Romans 1:18-32
